Season 2 of The Eminence in Shadow will be released, and details of the plot have been revealed.
The Eminence in Shadow season 2 has a confirmed release date, and it’s not too far away! After the first season’s explosive finale, fans were curious about what to anticipate from the second season and how long we will have to wait for it. It turns out that we don’t have to wait for long as the upcoming season is releasing this year only!
Written by Daisuke Aizawa, the isekai series The Eminence in Shadow, also known as Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!, made its debut as a 2018 web novel on a user-generated website, Shosetsuka ni Naro. But the supposedly typical ‘dark fantasy isekai’ surprised everyone as its entire plot hinged on the protagonist making absurdly mysterious stories that just happened to be true.
Since comedy and dark fantasy rarely go hand in hand, the series gained immense fame within months of its release.
This led Enterbrain to publish The Eminence in Shadow as a light novel series, and later a manga series was serialized by artist Anri Sakano.
As the series kept gaining new fans, there was intense demand for its anime adaptation. And it didn’t take long for the anime adaptation to be announced. Studio Nexus announced the anime adaptation in 2021, and the series aired from October 2022 to February 2023.
As expected, the anime series received record viewership and resulted in an additional one million fans picking its manga and light novel volumes.
And so, it’s no wonder that fans are looking forward to season 2 of The Eminence in Shadow anime. So the question is, is there a season 2? The answer is YES! Do we have a release date? Also YES!
The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Release Date
Initially, I assumed that since the first season concluded in February 2023, the second season wouldn’t premiere until at least next year, but I was wrong.
We have good news from the creators of the isekai anime series. The Eminence in Shadow season 2 will premiere on October 4, 2023.
But there is also bad news. As per the latest reports, the second season will only have 12 episodes, unlike season 1, which had 20 episodes. So, it’s likely that we’d only see one arc animated in the upcoming season!
The Eminence in Shadow Season 1 was announced in February 2021, and the series started premiering after a gap of 1.5 years in October 2022.
And now, Studio Nexus is keeping up with the same date as the second season will be released in October 2023. As the first season was extremely popular among otakus, I assumed that the second season of The Eminence in Shadow might get priority treatment, and that’s exactly what happened!
The Eminence in Shadow Plot & Season 2 Expectations
If you’re curious about season 2 of The Eminence in Shadow, I assume you’ve already watched and thoroughly enjoyed the first season. But I’ll give you a brief recap of the first season in case you read this article long after the first season concluded.
The Eminence in Shadow revolves around a modern-day Japanese boy who dreams of running the world from the shadows as a mastermind. But one of his training sessions ends up in him being killed by ‘Truck-kun’ and then getting reincarnated as Cid Kageno in a fantasy world filled with magic.
But now he has access to magic and is on his way to achieving his one-and-only dream of becoming the “Shadow,” the mastermind who pulls strings from behind the scenes.
While training and attacking robbers to plunder their money, he rescues an elf girl and recruits her to his organization, “Shadow Garden,” which he made up at the moment. He names the elf girl “Alpha,” and she kind of becomes the head of the organization. Cid also says Shadow Garden’s purpose is to fight the “Cult of Diablos” and prevent the resurrection of the Demon Diablos. However, this is also a story that Cid made up at the moment to sound cool and play out his roleplaying fantasies.
Unbeknownst to Cid, the “Cult of Diablos” truly exists and is trying to revive the demon Diablos.
And so, when Shadow Garden members take Cid on their missions, he plays along, assuming that everyone’s just very good at roleplaying.
The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 will begin with “Queen of Blood & Trade Arc,” where we will see Cid going to the Lawless City along with her sister Claire Kagenou, who’s planning on taking down the Blood Queen, the Progenitor Vampire.
The trailer released for season 2 shows all the characters set to appear in the upcoming season, and it’s not just the Blood Queen. We will see some powerful characters, including Juggernaut the Tyrant, Yukime the Spirit Fox, and Crimson The Vampire, the rulers of Lawless City, and they will give Cid the perfect stage to make his entry as the mysterious figure and improve his reputation, and set the stage for his ultimate battle with the Blood Queen!

Studio Nexus will adapt The Eminence in Shadow season 2, as the series has been one of its most profitable projects.
It’s highly likely that Kazuya Nakanishi and Kanichi Katou will likely return as the main director and scriptwriter, respectively. Meanwhile, Kenichiro Suehiro will probably be responsible for music composition, and Makoto Iino will rejoin as character designer.
Like that, the previous cast member will probably reprise their roles too, with Seiichiro Yamashita as Cid Kagenou, Rina Hidaka as Claire Kagenou, Asami Seto as Alpha, and Inori Minase as Beta.
And we have four new characters joining in season 2, with their voice actors being:
