Release Date and Trailer for Solo Leveling Anime, along with Details on Cast & Plot

The Solo Leveling anime launch date is officially confirmed. But we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see our favorite manhwa characters in action. So, when is it coming out? If you’re here to find that out, keep reading as we talk about everything we know about Solo Leveling anime so far!

Premiering as a 2016 web novel, Chugong’s South Korean action-packed series “Solo Leveling” was instantly selected by D&C Media for publishing under their Papyrus label.

But the series’ fanbase remained an unassuming business until mid-2018 when illustrator Sung-Rak Jang aka ‘Dubu’ started creating Solo Leveling webtoon. Soon, webtoon services like Tapas licensed its Japanese and English translations.

And so, Solo Leveling suddenly became a global sensation!

However, critics suggested that Solo Leveling’s rising fame had nothing to do with originality. Instead, they attributed this hype to its “typical shonen plot’ painted with mesmerizing hues – something that contrasts manga’s black-and-white panels.

But this bias underestimated Dubu’s precise portrayal of microexpressions that leave a lingering taste of thrill – a feature usually found only in live animation.

This explains why studio A-1 Pictures found Solo Leveling appealing enough to declare an anime adaptation during Crunchyroll’s Anime Expo 2022. Since then, the release schedule has been updated further. So, the question is:

What is the Solo Leveling Anime Launch Date?

Earlier official PV and visuals suggested the anime release this year. But the latest update from the official Solo Leveling media team confirms that the anime is set to come out in the Winter of 2024.

The announcement also included a new visual and a trailer promising a thrilling series. Here’s another key visual that was released a couple of days ago now that we are inching closer to the anime’s release date:

The reason behind the delay from 2023 to the first quarter of 2024 is not known. But I think it has to do with A-1 Pictures’ jam-packed schedule. After all, the studio has been busy animating several series this year, including NieR: Automata Ver1.1a, Mashle: Magic & Muscles, Fate/Strange Fake: Whispers of Dawn as well as the film Eisen Flugel.

But the good news is that Solo Leveling anime now has a fixed release schedule, and we can look forward to some thrilling entertainment for the coming year.

Solo Leveling Anime Cast & Crew Details

Crunchyroll has declared that Shunsuke Nakashige will be the Head Director. Meanwhile, Noboru Kimura, Hiroyuki Sawani, and Tomoko Sudo will join as the head writer, music director, and character designer.

So far, no voice actors have been announced. So, we don’t know for sure who will be the voice of our protagonist Sung Jinwoo or any of the other characters, including Yoo Jinho, Sung Jinah, Park Kyung-Hye, Cha Hae-In, and Lee Joohee.

Perhaps, A-1 Pictures will contract Korean voice actors for the sake of authenticity. If so, that’ll explain why no cast members have been declared yet.

Anyways, Chugong and H-goon will likely be part of the animation crew as original creators. But it’s deeply grieving that the webtoon illustrator and CEO of the Redice Studio, i.e., Dubu, will not be there to celebrate the premiere of the Solo Leveling anime adaptation with us as he passed away back on July 23, 2022.

This, however, means that the animation crew must preserve Dubu’s legacy with utmost care. So, as Dubu hardcore fans, you may have several questions about the animation crew, and we’ll provide you with all the information available now!

Solo Leveling Anime Trailer:

Along with the announcement of the release date, a teaser trailer for the upcoming anime adaptation of Solo Leveling was also revealed.

Recently, another trailer for the upcoming show was released. You can check out the latest trailer below:

Who is Animating Solo Leveling Anime?

The main production studio is A-1 Pictures, famous for its ethereal cinematic graphics. It’s the same studio behind the success of various anime such as Fairy Tail, Sword Art Online, the Seven Deadly Sins, Fate/Apocrypha, Kaguya-Sama Love is War, and NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a.

The head director for Solo Leveling, Shunsuke Nakashige, has previously worked as a key animation director in various masterpieces including Chainsaw Man, Attack on Titan, Sword Art Online, and Re: ZERO – Starting Life in Another World.

With such versatile experience, he seems perfect for directing Solo Leveling anime.

But A-1 couldn’t have contracted a better-suited musician than Hiroyuki Sawano, a living legend who has worked not only in One Piece, Attack on Titan, Naruto, and Pokemon but also in 86, Blue Exorcist, Re: CREATORS, and Soul Link.

Meanwhile, head writer Noboru Kimura has earned various titles for his work in scripting Princess Principal: Crown Handler, Mai-HiME, Kemono Jihen, and Dragonar. But he is most famous for his books, including Gundam 00, Celestial Beings, and Fallen Angels.

At the same time, character designer Tomoko Sudo has worked in almost all anime genres. His notable works include Sword Art Online, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, Fate/Apocrypha, Blue Exorcist, and Spy x Family.

Since you are interested in Solo Leveling anime, I am assuming that you have thoroughly read and enjoyed the webtoon. But I’ll give you a quick recap in case it’s been a long time or you are new to the series.

What is Solo Leveling All About?

Solo Leveling, aka “Na Honjaman Rebeleop,” is set in a universe where many humans are hunters and must fight mysterious creatures for survival. They raid magical places called ‘dungeons’ by entering through special portals. But no one truly knows why these creatures or dungeons exist.

One frail hunter named Sung Jinwoo is often bullied as the “weakest hunter in the world.” Despite that, he’s forced to hunt and leads a miserable life, all to take care of his younger sister and ailing mother.

But things change when he enters a double dungeon, only to barely survive and wake up to a live gaming interface – something only he can see. It’s revealed that a mysterious program called ‘System’ has chosen Sung Jinwoo as its sole player.

Now, Jinwoo can level up his strengths by completing System’s game tasks, but everyone else is stationary at their power ranks.

So, with the help of this “System,” Sung Jinwoo keeps getting stronger by entering various dungeons and completing dangerous tasks. Before long, he goes from the weakest hunter in the world to someone who can stand up to and even overwhelm the strongest hunters.

However, Sung Jinwoo is curious about this “System” and why it chose him in the first place!

As the story unfolds, the secret behind the appearance of the dungeons and monsters within comes to light, and it’s revealed that humanity faces a threat from all-powerful entities who want nothing but to lay waste to Earth as part of their ongoing and everlasting battle!

However, speaking further may spoil the series for you, so I’ll stop here. But if you must know, you can always read the webtoon yourself.
